CFD & Thermodynamics R&D Engineer

The company develops proprietary, advanced offshore & onshore transmission tech comprising a unique combination of mechanical, electrical & process engineering disciplines.

The mechanical Engineering team engage in cutting-edge R&D in the areas of:

fluid & thermodynamics,
mechanical & structural design,
cryogenics & refrigeration,
advanced manufacturing,
materials? science & composites development,
marine engineering & operations.

Key responsibilities

Complete CFD & thermodynamics research in a R&D Team.
Drive innovation in thermal management system, developing & optimising concepts for application in heavy engineering/offshore power equipment.
Develop & validate in-house analytical tools in fluid dynamics & heat transfer analysis to enable cross-functional teams to interrogate system optimisations of superconducting cable system.
Undertake various CFD studies & research programs.
Design prototype components & systems, fluid & thermodynamic instrumentation systems, test rigs & other bespoke test equipment.
Undertake Risk Assessments, FMEAs, Root Cause Analyses, Technology Assessments, etc.
Analysis, development, & presentation of technical proposals. Review presentations & reports.
Manage internal studies, external vendors & suppliers? design work.
Commission test rigs & instrumentation systems. Undertake FAT & QA assessment of rigs & prototype test. Supervise & execute prototype testing programs.
Prepare & update technical documents including product specifications, study protocols, design qualification procedures & relevant reports.

Contribute to a culture of innovation by proactively generating novel solutions to improve product performance & develop the company?s IP.
Develop product & business needs to ensure product development solutions are delivered.

Exp & Skills required

Masters/Ph.D. in fluid dynamics &/or numerical methods.
Professional exp of more than 2 years in a relevant field.
Demonstrate Fluid Dynamics & Thermodynamics modelling, testing, analysis & reporting.
Proven exp using commercial CFD modelling packages (Fluent, Comsol or equiv.)
Exp in multi-phase flow; data analysis & processing using Matlab, Python, C++ or equivalent.
Strong interpersonal, communications & relationship management skills.
Excellent written & presentation skills.
Exp in R&D on heavy industry products through the TRL cycles
Flexibility - some travel possibly
Exp in the Offshore Energy Sector & working with Research Institutions.
